Libor Šmoldas has been one of the busiest jazz guitarists on Prague’s scene for last years. Has played and recorded with Jeff Ballard, George Mraz, Sam Yahel, Joel Frahm, Michal Tokaj, Lukasz Zyta or Michal Baranski as well as with the best musicians of Czech scene: Najponk, Ondřej Pivec, Jiří Slavíček, Jaromír Honzák, Yvonne Sanchez, David Dorůžka and others.
Libor writes his own music, performing it mainly with his trio (CD On the playground, 2007) and most recently quaret (new CD "In New York On Time" features George Mraz, Jeff Ballard and Sam Yahel). He is also a member of Ondřej Pivec’s band Organic Quartet, with which he has performed at numerous European festivals and recorded albums Never Enough and Don’t Get Ideas. This album was awarded the 2006 Anděl award for Best Czech Album in the jazz and blues category. In 2005 he was awarded a scholarship to the Berklee College of Music. He also applies himself to brazilian music with his wife's band called Zeurítia (CD Zeurítia 2008) and blues with organist Jan Kořínek's band Groove. Šmoldas teaches jazz guitar at the Post-Secondary School of the Jaroslav Ježek Conservatory. Since 2008 he is a member of Czech Jazz Society's managing board organizing such events as summer international jaz workshop and young jazz bands contest.
